Bloodlined Calligraphy @ Facedown Fest in Pomona, California

Bloodlined Calligraphy @ Facedown Fest in Pomona, California

Everyone who has a deep appreciation for the healing power of music will get on board with a few bands from their area and latch on, hard. For me, one of those bands is Bloodlined Calligraphy. I have a deep love for the past and present incarnations of the band. I used to watch them in Ypsilanti at Mr. Muggs and The Elbow Room and Woodruffs and various spots all over Michigan. In the 2000s this band was my Michigan hardcore heroes...

Thrash Back To Reality with "Major Rager" From Dead To Fall

Thrash Back To Reality with "Major Rager" From Dead To Fall

"WHAT THE FUCK SOMEONE THREW A BRICK INTO MY TV!"

Oh, this takes me back to a simpler time. When I still drank, smoked shittier weed, and still partied like I was dying before 30. 2008 Was definitely a weird year. At this point in time, I'm over a year out of doing narcotics and smelling the roses of post-raver life as a dropout burnout drunk and a wonderfully treated regular at my local watering hole. This was the end of those times and was leading into a darker period emotionally, what I can say is before shit got dark again, it was a gigantic party similar to this. In a little ass town with a bunch of pothead drunks getting wild to stupid music. It wasn't even close to this video's party, but it was a hell of a time. That's what these TBT's are all about. A look back into what life was through the music of that time period. Deal with it homey, I'm a soft bastard. Dead to Fall hasn't put out a record since but if this is their fucking Swan Song, then fuck yeah man. This shit still rips and the video is one of my favorites to this day!

Eighteen Visions sign to Rise Records and Release Video for "Oath"

Eighteen Visions sign to Rise Records and Release Video for "Oath"

Eighteen Visions are back and they signed to Rise Records with a newly formed lineup and some brutal production. Joining James, Keith, and Trevor, is one of our favorites in all of hardcore, Josh James of Stick To Your Guns and Formerly of Evergreen Terrace and Casey Jones. He to me signals the seriousness of the rest of the band. Josh tends to be brought in and gives an element that always seems to be what that band is missing.

I am stoked to hear the rest of the record and am down as fuck with this new video for "Oath". 18V and crew enlisted Mick Kenney to produce the record and one of the songs "Live Again" has been confirmed to be written about their friend and a member of 18 Visions Mick Morris who passed away from a heart condition in 2013. The money is definitely still on the table baby and I think Mick would love this new tune. Check out the video below.

GALLERY: Carnifex Live at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan

Fucking intense, evil, dark as fuck, and of course, brutal. Carnifex laid waste to the Crofoot in Pontiac, Michigan and I had front row for them to melt my face clear off. From the depths of hell Scott, Buddah and crew ripped the crowd apart with their brand of deathcore that sent chills down my spine. I am so fucking stoked to see them this summer.

Carnifex is also one of the heavier bands to grace the stage at this year's Vans Warped Tour.

Check out the gallery below and give them some love on their links too.

WARPED TOUR 2016: Motionless In White Live at the Palace of Auburn Hills

WARPED TOUR 2016: Motionless In White Live at the Palace of Auburn Hills

Motionless in White is a band that I always saw in magazines but I was honestly a dick about. I just lumped them in with who they looked like instead of being a decent fucking human being. I made Warped a point to be a change in my mentality and attitude towards music and people in general. I won't ever lose my cynicism or my brash bluntness so many of you have come to hate, but I can at least say that I gave a bunch of bands a shot that day and no one was disappointing, or fucked up, or not completely on point. "Motionless" chants from the crowd came as the 6 member band came out on the stage and ripped right into "Reincarnate" and immediately the crowd bounced ala 70s English Pogo. I didn't even know what to say when Ghost was right in front of me staring me in the eyes dressed as Regan from the Exorcist with pea soup vomit and all, I realized I was wrong. I fucked up. This band is great and fucking brutal and bassy with synth sounds all to their own. I really enjoyed this set and furthered my knowledge of completely being wrong and sleeping on artists for years. Bands like this make you a better photographer and writer and critic. Admit when you're wrong, it's fucking freeing you bastards. Check out the gallery below.

GALLERY: Fallujah Live at The Crofoot Ballroom in Pontiac, Michigan

Fallujah is an extreme metal band from San Francisco. I fucking loved photographing them. They were brutal, technical, and photogenic. Their set was on point and I am looking forward to photographing them again in the future. They released their third studio album last year "Dreamless" and it is fucking gnarly. Get it, listen to it on repeat and run on a treadmill or punch a dishwasher or whatever the fuck you need to do to blow off steam. European friends, make sure to check their websites for details on their 2017 summer tour. They are surely not to be missed.

Check out the gallery below and give them some love on their links too.

WARPED TOUR 2016: The Story So Far Live at the Palace of Auburn Hills

WARPED TOUR 2016: The Story So Far Live at the Palace of Auburn Hills

The Story So Far was one of my highlights of the day. I had been looking forward to this one for a few years. I was so stoked to have my beer gut rub against the stage while awaiting them to come out and rock the middle of the day set.  It was hard to not sing along while shooting this set. Because of that I upped my shutter speed to almost 1/400th knowing that I was going to be unable to resist singing along. Not to mention the band moves around a lot and with the sun beating down it was easy to use the settings I used. How could I resist singing along though? The first three songs were "All Wrong" and "The Glass" and "Nerve". Give me a break. If my life depended on not singing along to this band I would have been dead 30 seconds into their set. It hit's the chest so deep and considering the shit this band has helped get me through, it only made sense to get as many photos as possible.

WARPED TOUR 2016: Chelsea Grin Live at the Palace of Auburn Hills

WARPED TOUR 2016: Chelsea Grin Live at the Palace of Auburn Hills

Chelsea Grin is one of the heaviest bands I have ever heard. Deathcore to me is nothing without one band, and if you can't feel that influence from that one band, then it doesn't seem like Deathcore to me. That band Chelsea Grin definitely pulls influence from is On Broken Wings. It's even more advanced and intricate and the songwriting brings progressive styles into an otherwise only brutal as fuck genre. I fucking love when a band goes in on every song like it's the last one they're going to put out. This alone is why I was so fucking stoked to photograph these dudes, the even cooler thing is I get to do it again this week in Detroit.

Chelsea Grin came out with middle fingers up and gave us the sonic jump kick to the face. They make it easy to photograph them simply by being so animated and involved with their fans and the photographers in the pit too! I was a fan of their work before this set, but this sealed it for me. I'm now all about this band and am in full support of their latest record "Self Inflicted". Detroit, check them out Thursday at the Shelter with Ice Nine Kills, Gideon, Enterprise Earth and Clarity. I believe this is an early show. Doors I think are at pm!

Killswitch Engage Live at Dirt Fest 2016

Killswitch Engage Live at Dirt Fest 2016

had the esteemed pleasure of photographing one of the longest running festivals around. In its 15th year, Dirt Fest brought in thousands of fans of the harder types of rock music. I photographed most of the main stage bands throughout the sweltering 100-degree day in Pontiac, Michigan.

The next gallery is from metalcore godfathers, Killwswitch Engage. I fucking love this band man. I really do. These dudes have some of the best stage presence to go along with some of the best music, songwriting, and production in all of heavy music. This was a bucket list set for me as a photographer and it was so hard not to stop and just take it all in.

I photographed most of the main stage bands throughout the sweltering 100-degree day in Pontiac, Michigan. The next gallery is from hardcore legends, Hatebreed. Half of the three songs I photographed I kept thinking to myself "Is this really happening?" and "Remember wanting to destroy your bedroom to Satisfaction is the Death of Desire?" This was one of those moments in my career that made me really accept that concert and music photography is just where I belong. Here's the photos from this brutal Hatebreed set.

I photographed most of the main stage bands throughout the sweltering 100-degree day in Pontiac, Michigan. The next gallery is from Attila. This was fucking ridiculous. The band ripped through their set and got the crowd going fucking batshit. Then it happened, a couple got caught fucking on top of the Phoenix Plaza Amphitheater overlooking the Crofoot Festival space. It's on youtube... and I would link that shit, but I still don't know what to say about it. Anyway, here's the gallery from Attila's set at Dirt Fest 15 in August of 2016, Pontiac, Michigan. If you use any of the pics, please give me, Atilla, and Dirt Fest credit.

I loved their energy and the back and forth between both vocalists. They stood out by easily being the unique band of the day. Definitely some of the most photogenic and animated artists I have ever shot. I had such a good time shooting and editing these photos. Nothing but love to the dudes in Born of Osiris. This was fucking nuts because they played all the early jams that got the crowd worked the fuck up. They even ended the set with Losin' It and brought out friends to play their instruments as they faded from the stage. Fucking perfect exit, here's the photo gallery!

I photographed most of the main stage bands throughout the sweltering 100-degree day in Pontiac, Michigan. The next gallery is from one of my favorite hardcore bands of all time, Walls of Jericho. They fucking tore it the fuck up. Between them, FTFD, Bury Your Dead, and Hatebreed, it was so obvious that Hardcore won the day. At least for me. The crowds were 100x crazier for those bands than the others. Not to say it's a competition but I'm being a dick about it anyway. Here are the photos!
